Cruise Lines Offer Many Different Job Possibilities
November 23, 2009 | Leave a Comment
As far as the hiring process is concerned, cruise lines hire staff year-round to fill available positions. Cruise lines are seeking highly motivated, energetic, outgoing, friendly and professional employees that maintain a positive attitude and have a strong commitment to customer service. Job positions are usually available in contracts that last anywhere from three to nine months. Depending on how committed of an employee you are, you may even have the option to extend the time of your specific contract.
Compared to other job industries, cruise lines have an extremely high turnover rate when it comes to the retention of employees. This is largely due to the fact that most people do not consider jobs on cruise lines to be life-long career commitments. Furthermore, many crew members will be promoted, transfer to different ships or cruise lines, go on vacation, return to school, or simply settle down with a land-based job position.
Job applicants from all over the globe can apply for cruise line positions. If you don’t have strong skills in a specific area, don’t let that stop you from applying. Many cruise ships have entry-level position openings that do not require any experience. On the other hand, if you have had a history of employment in the hospitality industry, then you should have no problem securing a position. This is because you have prior history in dealing with customer service.
Cruise lines are rather strict with the hiring process for new applicants. For instance, there are specific guidelines that need to be followed in order for your job application to be reviewed. If for some reason your application package is incomplete or incorrect, or sent to the wrong contact person, it will be discarded immediately. There are different procedures and different points-of-contact for each position that is available. Don’t waste your time and efforts; make sure you follow these guidelines exactly.
In order to be eligible for consideration for a job position, it is important that you collect accurate and complete information on the steps you need to take to help the process along. Take some time to investigate the different positions that are available and choose the ones that best fit your needs. Keep in mind that not every opening on cruise ships will be fun; some jobs may require that you invest extra hours or sacrifice your time off in order to meet the needs of the ship.
