Get Better Gas Mileage From Your Car

Nobody can have failed to notice the incredible rise in the price of gas in recent months. This has come after years of slowly increasing prices and we are now at a point where everybody is feeling the pinch. The rise may mean you are driving a bit less or perhaps it means you have cut back on your spending. Few people are able to just ignore it.

So what can we do about it? We have no control over the price of oil so all we can do is to try to use less of it and get the best value from the gas we buy. There are several ways we can approach this. We can drive less, we can make our cars more economical with the gas they use, we can drive in a more economical way and use less gas while we do the same journey.

The first choice is the simplest. You just have to use your car less often. You can do this by combining trips and instead of driving to a different store each time you go out, go to all of them in one round trip. Go shopping every other day instead of every day. Travel with your neighbors and that way you both can save on gas.

We can drive in a way that uses less gas. Not many people are aware of this but hard acceleration and braking wastes gas. If you plan ahead and slow gently you will save gas. Accelerate gently and smoothly and you will use a lot less gas than you would with a heavy boot on the throttle. The secret is to think ahead and see what the traffic is doing in front of you so you do not need to reacte suddenly. This will save you gas.

We can also be more economical by driving smaller and more efficient cars, we can keep our cars serviced more often so they run at optimum efficiency. Another possibility is to fit some gas saving or energy efficient devices to help our cars use less gas.

These gas saving devices have been mocked over the years. Car companies and the oil industry have been quick to dismiss them. The trouble is that these organizations have a vested interest and the oil companies wanted us to use more gas while the car companies didn’t want to look like they were not bothered about our cars fuel consumption.

There may be some devices that made no sense back in the day when oil and gas was cheap but now gas is so expensive they may make a lot more sense. Just a saving of a mile or two per gallon would be a very valuable saving in gas costs for many people.

The scientists are saying that we will all be using hydrogen for our gas supplies in years to come but that seems to be a way off yet. There are not many hydrogen gas stations and there are only a handful of hydrogen cars running around on our roads as test vehicles. We are an inventive nation and there are lots of people who have been working on this problem in their garages and workshops and they have developed ways to generate hydrogen and use it to save on gas costs in the cars we already have and drive every day.

Now, these people are not scientists or anything special. They are just bright people with an inquiring mind. They figured out the way to produce hydrogen with simple equipment that you can buy locally. Nothing too fancy here, you just buy the parts and put it together and fit it to your car. They reckon it can be done in a few hours by just about anyone and they offer instructions how to do this online.
