Hotels Near Walt Disney World: Why You Should Consider Staying Off Disney Property
July 9, 2009 | Leave a Comment
If you are planning a vacation to Walt Disney World, while you and your family may be very excited, you also may be concerned with how much it will cost. However, there are a number of ways that you can save money on your Disney trip. Instead of staying on Disney property, consider accommodations in one of the many hotels near Walt Disney World.
You will find several advantages to staying in a non-Disney property. First, you will be pleasantly surprised to find more spacious, and possibly nicer rooms for the same, and possibly less money than at a Disney property. This is especially nice if you have a larger family, where a standard size hotel room is not large enough, necessitating the added cost of more than one room. And if you are traveling during peak holiday or school vacation times, you are likely to find it easier to find room availability in a lower price range.
Planning to visit any non-Disney parks or attractions? You can save money here as well, since a number of off-site properties offer discounts to the more popular events and venues. Another cost-saver will be easier access to a greater variety of restaurants and shopping.
Some of the other amenities you may find are theme park transportation, free breakfast, fitness and recreation opportunities, and your choice of family and children’s activities. Many hotels offer suites with mini-kitchens and fantastic themed pool areas that are on par (if not better) than anything Disney offers.
There is no doubt that you will not have a 24/7 Disney experience if you stay off-site…but you may be one who finds that to be advantageous. There are many who find they just need a break from all that pixie dust…and staying off Disney property can provide that much needed dose of reality every day.
It should be noted that there are several “non-Disney” hotels that are located on Disney property. Some are located in the Downtown Disney area, and others, such as the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin are near Epcot and Hollywood Studios. These hotels, while not Disney properties, still offer a number of Disney World benefits, but without the associated cost. If you are trying to save money but still really want the full Disney experience, then you may want to consider this alternative.
The only real potential disadvantage to staying off Disney property may be transportation. This is one area that you should carefully look at. To begin with, some hotels use a shared shuttle system with other properties, adding additional travel time. Some charge for their shuttle. If you are planning afternoon visits back to your hotel, you will want to consider all your alternatives. Many folks decide to rent a car, which can be a good solution, but realize that you will have a parking fee at the parks, and on peak holidays, the parking lots may actually close to non-Disney guests. Still, research carefully and you will find many great properties where transportation will not be a problem.
If you are looking to save money on your upcoming Disney vacation, you will find that there are many hotels near Walt Disney World that offer lots of great advantages, and few real disadvantages. Going to Disney World and saving money: it’s a winning combination!
