Planning a successful vacation means ironing out every last detail in advance. Some people choose to wait until they arrive at their destination to pick up a vehicle rental without reserving in advance. Doing this may potentially save you some money, however you run the risk of their being no cars available or of a company only having their top of the line vehicles available for you to rent. If you run into this scenario, then you could wind up having to pay more or even worse yet having to wait a few days for a vehicle to get around in.

Waiting until you arrive at your destination to rent a vehicle is a good way to save money, however you should always have a back up plan in case there are no vehicles available or a situation occurs that will have you renting a vehicle for more than you wanted to spend. When you place your rental reservation the company will not only ask you for the date you want to pick it up, but what time you would like it, as well. This makes for the perfect opportunity to give you extra time to shop around and find a better rental deal. Another good thing to know is that man y times your rental car will be ready a few hours before your scheduled time of pick, therefore you can always give a later time than you may feel necessary, just in case something was to come up. Even if your vehicle is not ready to for you when you arrive to pick it up, waiting a few minutes is nothing compared to the amount of money you will have to spend for a late cancellation.

Saving money is important, but not important enough to ruin your vacation over. Be sure to keep a reservation on the side, just in case.
