Tourism shapes life in the Seychelles, providing opportunities for different activities across all moments. Some of the outstanding engagements you can have may include a cocktail sip, a nice time in the cinemas, or a good dance at night.

Victoria, the island’s capital, presents a real picture of Seychelles lifestyle with the city portraying a rich culture influenced by French and British colonies and traces of Chinese, Indian and African. The morning in the city is kept alive by Victoria market and the diversity of inhabitants from all corners of the world. Clothes, jewellery and mementos can be found in boutiques. Though there are a few locally crafted items, most of the souvenirs are plastic tat made in China with a Seychelles sticker attached. The coconut derived products, hand-dyed pareos and silk paintings stand out as some of the best.

Art enjoys a fair presentation as well in this country and Revolution Ave at the Kaz Zanana ‘the pineapple house’ will be the ultimate place to shop. This is a wooden gallery offering art pieces that depict the daily flow of life. They include silk painting, watercolor images and collages. Fiennes Esplanade avenue is located slightly out of the main city centre and here is home souvenir stalls and dodgy sales-folk. For the visitors who would like to experience less expensive shopping, then this may proof to be a good choice. Local craftsmen have been considered by the government which has set up Camion Hall on Albert St to promote them. Many items here are more expensive but again some boutiques are only available here.

The best restaurants are found in themajor Seychelles hotels in the outskirts and they offer some of the best Cuisines thus suitable for the stylish group who go for something more in food than just eating. There is nothing tastier than a whole marinated red snapper or grilled jackfish even though generally Seychellois cuisine revolves around fish and rice. The most popular place in town is the Pirates Arms on Independence Ave. It contains huge, busy rooms with satellite screens to facilitate music channels. The food is not top quality but their toasted sandwiches (around6) are good. Meals are expensive even in the centre of the capital. A wooden jungle restaurant overlooking the Clock Tower with an extensive menu, Rendezvous has its main courses starting from around 12. Their cocktails come in plastic cacti and are excellent. A good view of Victoria can be attained from this restaurant since it has quite an open air nature.

Beau Vallon,a ten minute bus journey away is a better choice for eating, with points such as the excellent Boathouse, which specializes in a substantial Creole buffet that costs from 17 for two courses and all drinks, and the good Italian Al Mare.

The National Fishing Competition is held every year in April at the Beau Vallon Regatta and this will give you a peek at cultural events. Swimming/tug of war contests and yacht racing are performed in August-September. The Regatta in La Digue takes place in September too with October’s with Creole Festival next in Ocyober. In November, Environmental dignity is given attention during the Subois, which also doubles as a celebration of the Seychelles’ underwater World.

Mainstream hotels are always ready with best entertainment for their visitors. Similarly; clubs, casinos and discos are never left behind as they are always alive and fun at night even though many tourists may not be keen on paying them a visit. This could be because most tourists go to the island to have the best of time on their honeymoon.

Pirates Arms presents an ample drinking point and also serves as a main place to meet in town, the service being friendly with several slot machines.

Common in many of the larger hotels are live shows, and guests are ever driven to excitement especially towards the end of the shows when they get humble invitations to get involved.

Gaming houses stand out perhaps as the most thrilling entertainment in Seychelles. From custom slot machines to a trio casino establishment, the houses are admirable by all means.

There are no competing cinemas in the city as the Deepam, in Albert Street, Victoria is the only Cinema in the City,a wonder!. Movies run the scope from Hollywood blockbusters to Bollywood favorites, French and Chinese titles, in an attempt to have the eager and wide audience entertained. Hotel DVD libraries are also a good option to consider.

A romantic dinner on the beach or a specially-hotel-staged scrub and massage therapy before retiring to the beauty of love is a perfect way to end a day in style. This is assured in Seychelles and your visit will bear all the beautiful experience.
