When you are traveling abroad for a vacation you want to try to find out at least a few things that you can do when you arrive at your destination to make sure its all worth while. This of course depends very much on the type of holiday you are looking for but when it comes down to visiting capital cities in the world your options will tend to be sightseeing, shopping, or plain relaxing in a hotel.

Here we are discussing what you can do when you arrive in Kuala Lumpur, the capital city of Malasysia. Its a fairly large city with almost 2 million inhabitants and there is a lot to be seen and done, and a lot of shopping too if you are this way inclined. Here though are a few places that you may well wish to add to your itinerary list.

Enjoy the city by day and at night. Rise as early as you can and climb the bridge between the Petronas Towers. Do not be content with merely taking a postcard shot of the Pertronas, instead climb it to enjoy this once in a lifetime experience.

* check out the Petronas Towers. Okay, its not easy to avoid the Petronas Towers if you are in Kuala Lumpur – after all they are among the tallest buildings in the world and were the tallest until Taipei 101 was built in 2004. They were completed in’98 by the architect Cesar Pelli, and contain a total of 88 floors. Well worth a look!

Visit the Petronas Towers. Designed by Cesar Pelli in’98, it has become a popular tourist destination for most visitors of the country. Known as one of the tallest buildings of the world, you should visit the Petronas by day and try to climb on the bridge and definitely experience it at night once all the lights have been turned on.

Explore the Bird Parks. Visit the Lake Gardens and enter the Bird Park where you can take a very leisurely boat ride around the garden and enjoy the vast collection of different species of birds, one of the crowning glories of Malaysia that is popular all around the world.

Visit the Lake Gardens, which is a 90-hectare oasis in the middle of the city. In here you can explore the Orchid Garden, the Hibiscus Garden, the Deer Park, the National Monument and the Bird Park.

* go for a walk in the jungle. If jungle trekking is your thing and you yearn for a break from city life, then by all means head out of the main city and enjoy the variety of wildlife on offer in the Malaysian jungles.

* take a walk in the Butterfly Park. A very popular tourist attraction, the Butterfly Park is a great place to visit for the kids and for parents too. The park contains over 6000 butterflies from 120 different species.

Finally, a more adventurous way to embrace nature would be to take a jungle walk away from the busy city streets. In this jungle tour you can enjoy the diversity of living species within the tropical forests of Malaysia and a sense to be living in most natural habitat in the world.

These tours vary greatly between the various tour operators so its best to do a bit more research before you decide which tour is right for you.

Do more than just shop. Do not be content with the many shopping malls and stores all over the city, take on a more adventurous kind of shopping and visit the streets of Chinatown as well as the various craft centers.

* and if shopping is your thing… Kuala Lumpur provides the avid shopper with pretty much all they can handle from shopping malls to antique stalls. Local and foreign brands are sold here at all sorts of prices so its wise to shop around to find the best.
