Should You Book A Holiday Now
December 13, 2009 | Leave a Comment
The big question a lot of people ask when it comes to booking up a holiday is should they do it early or should they wait. If they wait until the eleventh hour they could pick up a holiday cancellation or a special offer and get away at a reduced price. If they book up now it could cost them more particularly if there are last minute bargains available.
This is probably a bad way to look at this problem and causes a lot of people to end up either paying more than they require to or getting the wrong holiday.
If you are lucky enough to be able to go on vacation whenever you desire and do not care about where you visit then you could hold on. As long as you can avoid the busy vacation dates when the schools are out and keep away from holiday weekends you should be ok to wait. But do not forget you cannot be too selective about the destination or lodgings either as this will put the price up. If it is simply a holiday away someplace hot then you should be ok to take advantage of any last minute discounted deals.
Last minute offers are sold on the basis that you will be in a lot of cases be getting the accommodation that was the last to sell. Your choice of flights will be again what is left although this could also be because they were previously too expensive. Vacation firms will have lodgings they have taken out for the whole season and in a lot of instances you may end up staying there first. This is however not always the case as sometimes vacation companies will also get additional accommodation they do not usually feature in their holiday booklets if they can get it at a good rate.
One of the crucial points in waiting to get a last minute offer by getting what could be called distressed stock is if there is none. Year after year some of the vacation firms have reduced their capacity and consequently the number of holidays on offer has decreased. In some cases the vacation companies have been able to increase prices where last minute availability is low and the demand is high.
As long as you are flexible with where you go on vacation as well as the times and flight times you could hold out and find a bargain. If the demand is high then the costs will not drop and you could end up paying more. Every year is unique and sometimes if there is bad weather at home all summer demand is high. This can also work in reverse and excellent weather can make the interest in overseas holidays and costs fall.
Whatever you decide to do make sure you research all the possible alternatives first. Do not just reserve the first offer unless of course it is such an amazing bargain you would be daft to refuse it.
